After looking for a 4 bore rifle for years, this one came up last week and I could not resisit it Made by an unknown Belgain maker (Liege proofs), this is a BIG rifle, compare it in the pic below with my 4 bore goose gun and Alexander Henry 6 bore rifle (posted here) Unfortuneately it has had the Patch Box removed and several off colour inserts in the stock At a touch under 19 lbs it it just about handleable for me, whereas the 22lb doubles are not Barrel is 30 inches with bore of 1.005" I have a mould for a .995 Round ball so MAYBE! in the future I will give it a go with a patch but not until I fix the nipple (only held in by a couple of threads) and NOT the full 14 - 16 drams BP (385 - 440 grain)!! loads ![]() Top is the goose gun with 34" barrel at 11 1/2 lbs, bottom the Alexander Henry ![]() Nice engraving ![]() Possibly restocked ![]() ![]() 7 groove rifling .010" deep ![]() Very optimistic 300 yard (metre?) rear sight, typical continental style ![]() Rugged foresight and heavy iron ramrod, no screw for removing misfire balls ![]() Comments and opnions please TH44 |
