The barrel shank of the large ring Mauser is larger than the barrel shank of the small ring. If I recall correctly, the ring on a small ring Mauser is about the same diameter as the M70 Win or the M700 Rem, although I might just be blowing. What really scares me is the "gunsmiths" who turn down the large ring action to "make" a small ring action. That really thins the ring, considering the larger barrel shank. You also lose the case-hardened outer shell of the ring. I have a beautiful G33/40 action squirreled away that has been in my closet for about 20+ years now. I always wanted to have a first class bolt gun made on it, then I got into double rifles. . . . . Curl |
