In reply to: Well, ".350 Mauser" might also mean the .350 Rigby cartridge in a Mauser-actioned rifle. Some of the old books/authors weren't always very accurate or descriptive when describing the rifles and cartridges they used. Anyway, here's an article about the 9x57 Mauser from African Hunter magazine: The 9x57 Mauser http://www.african-hunter.com/9x57_mauser.htm Original ballistics for the .350 Rigby Magnum (rimless) were a .35 caliber 225 gr bullet at 2625 fps. The cartridge was introduced by the John Rigby company in 1908. see: http://www.kynochammunition.co.uk/ ![]() ![]() Some pics of a .350 Rigby Magnum (in a Rigby rifle) on safari. Not my photos; more details can be found at: http://www.accuratereloading.com/frsafari.html ![]() "F.R., his Rigby and a zebra" ![]() "F.R. used his 350 Rigby to bag this kudu bull at 275 yards." ![]() "F.R. used his 350 Rigby Magnum, made by Rigby's in 1953. He used a load with the Woodleigh 250 grain soft point bullet, and 70 grains of IMR 4350. This load has a muzzle velocity of 2475 fps." -Bob F. |
