When we talk drop box versus standard, it has to do with the depth of the magazine box in relation to the trigger guard and the capacity. The box does not necessarily have to extend past the stock. Below are two photos, first a 300 WSM with standard magazine box (capacity 3 rounds), notice the bottom of the magazine is even with the inside top surface of the trigger guard. The second picture is a 404 Jeffery with a drop box (magazine capacity of 5), notice the bottom of the magazine box is lower than the inside upper surface of the trigger guard and the stock 'wraps' down in front to match up with the bottom of the magazine box. |
