Back in about 1973 or 1974, I gave my brother a Model98 in .30/06 for his birthday. I recall that it had a laminated military stock, bent bolt(not cut and re-welded) and normal iron sights and a "stepped" barrel. I assume i had purchased it from Allen Lever's, "Lever Arms" in Vancouver. That's store always had interesting stock. I.believe I paid somewhere under $100.00 for it. He had a "barrel" full of them. Taylor used it with 150gr. factory loads on the small island deer on Graham Island of the now called Haida Gwaii. The "Islands" were called Queen Charlott Islands. He said that rifle was the "Hammer of Thor". Quite obviously, it must have been re-barreled military rifle, however it's appearance did not make that obvious. Rest in Peace, Charlie. You are already missed. |
