Sorry to raise this ugly topic, and I won't get into the politics, but this is a gun forum. The weapon has been described as a Mauser 98 in .30-06. The words "older" and "imported" have also been mentioned, and apparently the suspected killer believed the fact that it was not an ordinary rifle was in his favor. The rifle was apparently scoped. An older, imported Mauser 98 in .30-06 could be anything from an original Mauser sporter (A, B, M) to a European bolt gun in that caliber built on the 98 action (military or commercial). It could also be an American custom creation. As far as I know there are no military bolt action rifles chambered in .30-06 other than the 1903 Springfield. Any thoughts on this? |
