Straight pull rifles seem to be the rage in Europe. I had a straight pull rifle (a 1910 Commercial Ross in 280 Ross) and, while a beautiful, well made rifle, didn't seem really much quicker than a bolt action rifle and not as quick as my Remington 760 pump rifle. BTW, the stroke on a straight pull is somewhat longer than a bolt rifle because part of the stroke is required to turn the bolt. Other than pump rifles and guns being an "American" firearm, I am not sure why the Europeans don't make a very nice looking pump action rifle for running boar. The Remington 760 series has a free floating barrel and are reliable, accurate rifles. |
