GBP = Gewehr - Blaettchen - Pulver = (military) rifle flake powder. As 2.67 gramm was the pre-WW1 service load for the "cartridge M88", the 8x57I, the rifle was most likely rechambered to the 8x60 "Versailles treaty cartridge" in the 1920s when the 8x57 was outlawed. A photo of all the proofmarks on the underside of the barrel will tell the story. |
