This is not a sporterised military Mauser action, but a genuine commercial Mauser sporter made in 1940, according to the serial number and the proofmarks. Somewhere on the barrel there must be the proofdate given as something like 7 40 for July 1940. It is built on an intermediate length action like the famous .275 Rigby rifles. The photos don’t show the foreend, so it may either be a half-stocked model B or a full stocked model S Stutzen. The Zeiss Zielvier scope was mounted with Suhl type claw mounts by the retailing gunsmith, not by the Mauser factory. A nice collectible as well as useable commercial Mauser rifle. You are lucky as it retains it's original scope. |
