John, Rigby were instrumental in implementing optics from a very early stage. Their 1901 catalogue offers the option of optics for their Mauser rifles but also for single shot rifles and doubles. So considering the Mauser 98 came out in 1898 and Rigby were offering optics by 1901 makes a Rigby rifle with optics pretty traditional.

At the BGRC here in Vic. there are at least five 275 Rigby's which are used in the Light Nitro Class and only one is not equipped with original factory bases which were fitted when the rifle was made.
