Brno small receiver ring model 98s, like the VZ 33, G33/40 Brno 21 & 22, post WW2 Husqvarna and VG 47 are stronger than people think. My rough country elk rifle is a .338 Winchester Magnum, 22” barrel, barrel band front ramp, folding rear on a pedestal, and has a Leupold 2x7 on it all in nice piece of Bastogne walnut. No problems with strength. Through WW2 German Mausers were built of differentially hardened 1090 type mild steel. Many other manufacturers had made the shift to better alloy steels like 4140. Note I’m not claiming G33/40s are made of 4140. But then again... |
