I must say that it is still easier to load cartridges rapidly even without the charger for clip loading if there is a thumb cutout than without. There is also less chance of the cartridge getting caught in the left rail and having to be manipulated into position. Again, this is mainly a help for rapid loading but also very effective for blind loading.
