Re: Q. Building a new .303 Mauser?

Hi there,

I have a Mauser 98 in 303/25 which is a perfect candidate for a 303 Brit. It is a BYF 43 Oberndorf.

Whoever did the work knew what they were doing (except for the bolt handle) as it feeds very smoothly and the rifle is bedded and floated. It is not a pretty rifle as the bending of the bolt handle has been done bush mechanic style but it has a heavy barrel which was pristine when I bought it. The wooden stock is a bit rough but what impressed me about the rifle was that even though I had never reloaded for 303/25 and I used 87 grain pills made out of 22LR cases by The Bullet Factory, it shot a clovered three shot group at 100 meters so it made an awesome fox rifle.

I still have it after 10+ years but I would like to get the bolt handle redone and get a nicer stock for it. I bought a Bell and Carlson stock for it but ended up fitting it to my FN Mauser deer rifle.

It could be turned into a classic rifle with a 303B rebarrel and a nice classic styled wooden stock and some bolt work.
