Claydog, that's a nice old .404. I'm wondering if the early .404s like yours and Phil's, without magazine box side walls, have a wider follower than standard. When you get a minute, I'd really appreciate it if you could measure the width of the follower in your rifle and post what it is. My .404 was put together on a commercial FN 98, utilizing the standard magazine box, lengthened. Unfortunately, the side walls were widened just enough to barely get three rounds down, and I'm thinking about pruning the side walls of the mag box to improve the situation, but I'm reluctant to dive in and possibly cause other, unintended problems.
