Re: "London Best" Rigby again in .350 Rigby Magnum

Quote:

Pondoro Taylor in African Rifles and Cartridges writes that .350 Magnum Rigby was introduced to chase the .375HH - 'owing to the incessant demand for higher velocity and flatter trajectory'. He spoke very highly of this cartridge with a 225 grain bullet - 'at ranges up to at least 150 yards kills just as instantaneously as the .375 Magnum'.

.350 Rigby, the 400/350, threw a 310 grain bullet. Taylor loved it - '(I) can truthfully state that I have never owned a more generally satisfactory medium bore.' He goes on to agree with the statement 'I found that the .350, besides being unrivalled for smaller game would do all that the .450 would do with the bigger.' Excepting very dense bush and the inexperienced man.

That new Rigby is a beautiful rifle for sure. I've always wanted a 350 Rigby Magnum, but never had the opportunity to buy one.
I've been lucky enough however to hunt for the last 18 years with a double chambered in 400-350 Rigby, shooting mainly 310 grain softs and solids.
The cartridge is indeed a very good killer.
The 350 Rigby Magnum is a really nice looking cartridge with plenty of powder capacity, and has a very good reputation as a hunting cartridge.
Well done Rigby for bringing the 350 Magnum back in a rifle styled very much like the originals.

Does anyone know the actual release date for the 350 Magnum cartridge?
I think some sources claim around 1908 which if correct, would put it earlier than the 375 H&H Magnum.
