I have an opportunity to buy a custom 98 Mauser in .338 Win Magnum.

The gun belongs to an acquaintance who inherited it and wants to sell it. I haven't heard of this maker and looking for some help on the value. I would like to make an offer but don't want to overpay or at the same time come in way below.

Looking for a fair replacement cost.

Barrel is marked in scroll - D. J. Swann Maker .338 Win Magnum
Fully engraved including scope rings and barrel swing band, gold inlays.
Floor plate is fully engraved with gold inlay of a water buffalo head
The floor plate is signed by the engraver "PJV"
Wood is higher grade walnut than what is normally seen.
Bolt has a white inlay.

I am assuming it was made in Australia because of the water buffalo engraving

My apologies for the quality of photographs, it is tough to photograph black scroll engraving. The engraving looks much better than the photos.

Any help from experienced members on this forum will be highly appreciated.
