Note that removing these barrels can result in twisted actions, especially on the really old rifles. Cutting a relief groove in front of the action to relieve hoop stress of the barrel against the action face, can help, eliminating any action damage. We had a local gun smith, years ago, who used to slip a 2" x 3/8" late of steel up through the mag well, then torque on that with a long bar. He turned a bunch of these nice little actions into pretzels. I used a standard action wrench with the relief cut in front and the actions twisted off easily with just a small bump on the wrench handle. |
