Last year I purchased this Oberndorf Mauser in what I believe is 7x57 (I haven't done a chamber cast yet). Someone had affixed a rib to the original barrel and changed out the bottom metal/triggerguard with a non-original military piece. Sadly, it appears to have had a light polish on the action and re-blue and the bolt was heavily polished and poorly checkered. It came in a 60's US made aftermarket stock (possibly a Fajen). The price however, was right. I changed out the triggerguard with the metal from either an Argentine 1909 or possibly another model of 98 that I had laying around. With some minor inletting for the guard, I did my best to recontour the stock in a more original Oberndorf sporter style. But alas, I was limited by the aftermarket stock's shape as well as my own poor skill. The result, I felt was more befitting of the barreled action and I will have it to the range soon to see how it shoots (after the chamber case of course). Pictures... |
