That "Danzig Mount" is a strange one. On the Gew98, Peter Senich nicknamed it in his books as the "semi-turret" for its partial resemblance to the WWII era "turret mounts". With a circular foot on the front ring, you would expect it to pivot on that point with the windage at the rear, but in fact there is a fine screw adjustment in the front ring for windage, so it pivots on the rear "peg". The drawing above seems to show an alternate front ring and base with a tapered dovetail. Probably it was an easier design to manufacture than the hand-fitted dovetails typical of the claw mount systems. I once had such a Gew98 and a mismatching scope and they fitted together so they were probably set up in jigs, rather than individually fitted.
