Thank you for the advice Iowa 303. It does appear that tape was on the butt at one point. I could give the stock a wipe down with some pure BLO. I think I chucked the tung oil I had as it gummed up before using it all.

What did they say for new 1903 Springfield stocks and BLO? Once a day for a week, once a week for a month and once a month for a year?
