These loads were worked up in MY rifle chamber, using MY powder measure, at MY seating depth. Note that none of these loads showed one little bit of pressure, but I repeat, they were fired in MY rifle as noted below. The very most expansion I got at the expansion ring, was with the 232gr. Vulcan bullets with 50 and 52gr. of H5895. That expansion was .0002" - 2-10,000's of an inch and in one spot only on the circumference. The 300gr. RV resized to .367" Hornady .375 bullet gave .0001" to .0002" expansion. The rest gave 0 expansion from FL sized. 232gr. Norma Vulcan - 48.5gr. H335 - 2,900" OAl - 2,317fps 232gr. Norma Vulcan - 50.0gr. H335 - 2,990" OAL - 2,362fps 232gr. Norma Vulcan - 54.0gr. BLC2 - 2,990" OAL - 2,336fps 232gr. Norma Vulcan - 50.0gr. H4895- 2,865" OAL - 2,442fps 232gr. Norma Vulcan - 52.0gr. RWS TUG 3,1" OAL dropped pressure from the above 300gr. load and produced only 2,100fps. - made cloverleafs at 100 meters from my 1929 M46 Husky. On the left is a factory 8x57 RP case. Beside it is an 8x57 RP case necked up to take a .366" bullet. In the middle is an 8x57Rp case necked straight in one pass over an expander button. Beside that is an 8x57RP case necked to be a crush fit in my chamber. Note the shorter neck on the far right case compared to the case second from the left- that is a visual representation of .019" thousandths of in inch. It is readily visible. IF the case second from the left was loaded and fired, it would either spit the primer 1/2 way out, or the case would stretch at the expansion ring and separate on the first second or third firing. I used 8x57 RP brass and WLR primers. I necked the brass straight then sized them to be a crush fit in my chamber which has .019" headspace on simple necked up to .366" brass. |
