I have a Large Ring Mauser (1908 Brazilian) action I made a 25-06 on with a maple stock. Scoped and loaded with a sling on, it still only weighs 7 pound 3 OZ.

You can lighten up the action but the amount of steel you can get rid of only comes to about 3 OZ.

You are far better off sliming down a barrel and taking all unnecessary wood off the stock.
