Re: Modern Purdey H&H and Westley Richards Bolt Action Rifles

Quote:

At one time c.10-20 years ago Purdey tried (and I think failed) to develop their own bolt action rifle.

Nowadays they all use CNC machines and would have the capability of making their own bolt action Mauser 98 clones, but my understanding is the task is much harder than just reverse engineering them and none of them are likely to have the volumes of production to make it worthwhile. It might be different for H & H, but Purdeys were never really "known" for bolt action rifles.

I was in Purdey's about 20 years ago and looked at their bolt action rifle, the chap in the shop assured me they made them and were not bought in. At the time Purdey was the only London gunmaker making a 10 bore.

I realize Purdey are not as well known for their rifles as H&H , Westley Richards and Rigby, although side by side rifles with side clips are sublime as well as strong. A bolt action Purdey would certainly be exclusive as well as beautifully finished, one only has to look at the photo on their web site to see this.
