Agree, get it checked out.
30'06 is common enough that your smith should have headspace guages but if it is really in as good condition as reported I would expect no issues. I do have a TypeA in 30'06 which has a generous chamber though but has not presented any problems.
You will learn a lot here when you post pictures regarding condition and originality. Look forward to seeing it.
