If the rifle is in properly original condition there shouldn`t be any problem with such max. pressures as .30-06 will have. In C.I.P -standards .30-06 Pt.Max is 4050 and 7x64, which is very similar caliber as .30-06 is and one of most used caliber in m98 Mauser, is Pt.max 4150.

But despite that it´s good idea to get a good gunsmith to check the rifle.
