Yes model B in my opinion, I have never seen a Type A without the front sight barrel band, and front sling barrel band, also never seen one without the horn forend either. If you take a look at the original Mauser advertising brochure for the Type A in Speed's Original Oberndorf Sporters, or The Mauser Archive, you will see that the type A is described as specifically having the features I just mentioned. Checquering pattern and LPI are different from a B, Model M or S as well. Sling swivels are different as well on an A. As for the quality of the wood in my opinion it is not a good indicator because often times B's will have stocks with nicer figure and mineral staining than A's,(I have a few). But usually A's tend to have nicer stocks. I'll bet members here have some B's with pretty dandy stocks. |
