To me, this is a work of art, rather than a practical hunting rifle. A .338 Winchester Magnum without a scope is an oxymoron. There is no way to take advantage of the benefits of a flat shooting, hard hitting cartridge like that with the primitive open sights on this rifle. There is also no way of mounting a scope on it without obscuring a great deal of the exquisite engraving. Ideally such a rifle would have been fitted with a Griffin & Howe side mount and then engraved. Only a small portion of the receiver would have been covered up. If you would cherish it as a work of art, by all means buy it. However, I wouldn't expect any practical use out of it in its present form. |
