Thanks Kuduae I guess the point is that in this case since the screws coming up from the bottom metal to the underside of the action and joining where the recoil lug is defines the position of the cross bolt. Since the screws coming up from the bottom metal on a magnum action is in the the same location as a standard action, because the magnum action is lengthen this has the effect of the recoil lug appearing move backward with the cross bolt at the rear of receiver ring. Make sense?

Another question: I have heard that on occasion that gunsmiths would take two standard Mauser actions cut each one in two at a difference of 3/16" and re-weld them to create a "magnum" Mauser in light of what you said I don't see how this was possible. Have you heard anything on the surgical production of "magnum" Mauser?
