In reply to: But then the "commemorative" Mauser isn't built to be a Rigby copy! It's built to be a Mauser type A copy, which often had cheekpieces in the 1930s. The quote below might shed some light. It's from an e-mail sent to me from Gottfried Prechtl, who made the actions: "the original 1989-1998 is made like the original Form A from Mauser, built at 1939. The bolt handle is short. We tooked this original rifle for this model. You know that Mr. Goering, the Reichsjagdminister had the same rifle, but he got a longer bolt handle. Also John Rigby in London gots a little bit longer handles. ( this is fashion)" BTW, you might find the below quote from Prechtl interesting. It appears that quite a lot of gunmakers use his actions: "We produce rifles only for our customers and for MAUSER. Johannsen, english and austrian gunsmiths ( Holland &Holland, Rigby,Westley Richards, Habmrusch, Hauptmann, Just, Hofer),african gunsmithes like Sabi Werkswinkel, Truvelo, produce their own rifles with our actions." From whats been written in the posts above, it appears to me that the rifles 500Nitro, and a couple of you other guys handled are most likely the "Sigarms" series, and not the original series. So the question is which one has RLI looked at? Erik |
