This post is slightly off-topic but may be of interest... I had a look at a WR 425 yesterday that is in the possesion of a mate of mine Dave L I told Dave about this thread, so he wrote up a brief history / description of this rifle to post here. "W.R. serial no 43XXX circa late 50s Purchased from John Hicks, UK gun Dealer in late 70s or early 80s by Barry XXXX of Darwin Australia Now held in storage by Gun Dealer Dave L A lightly engraved FN actioned rifle, 25 inch barrel, standard WR open sights, and foresight protector The name "Chris Yiannakis" is engraved on the barrel between the back sight and the Knox form Trapped grip, personalised, better than standard grade, plain wood, horn fore-end Excellent handling Smooth feeding when cycled slow, but double feeds sometimes when bolt worked hard / fast" Apparently Chris Yiannakis was killed by an elephant while using this rifle We would be interested in the date and circumstances of this incident, if anyone knows the details... I also noticed that this rifle is drilled / tapped for scpoe mounts. The grub screws are still in place, and the engraving goes around them, so obiviously drilled / tapped by FN when they made the action. I can get photos of this rifle if someone can post them Cheers spinna |
