Factory ammo listed as 119gr. at 2,362fps in COTW and seems to me, that was the same as the DWM ammo shot by Cliff. Hunter, owner and proprieter of Hunter's Sporting Goods, Vancouver B.C.(close to Knight St. on Kingsway Ave.) in the early 1970's in his little 6.5x54 Mauser. I remember looking at his ammo and thinking it was grossly underloaded, compared to what the round could do. It appeared to have around a 20 degree shoulder, longer neck than .260 Rem, and therefore only slighlty less capacity (longer) and would probably do close to 3,000fps with the 120gr. with careful load development with modern powders. Something as fast as H4895 or Reloader #15 or even a slower one like Reloader #19 might do that trick. perfectly. |
