The '06 barrel should go - like you said, boring.

The 65mm 6.5 sounds fine to me, pretty much same ballistics as the 68 - once you make 60gr. capacity they're quite similar when loaded to the same pressure (even when some run over 80gr.)the tend to be easily within 100fps of the smaller case.
The 8x68 and .404 sounds terrific.
