I think my .338-06 was built in the late 1980's (I need to look at the receipt for the RCBS dies).
It really is a very impressive and underrated cartridge!
It kind of harps back to the British Nitro cartridges and their ???grain bullets, at 2400 to 2500fps.
Lot a critters been killed with them Nitro cartridges so no need for me to say any more on this!

My current interest is another similar (velocity) performer.
It's the Soviet M43/7.62 x 39 cartridge. It also pushes its 125gr bullet at 2400fps but I have been experimenting with bullets of 150, 170 and 180grain weight.
I have also been reloading some of these heavy weight bullets at subsonic velocities, using ADI/IMR Trail Boss powder, through the 22" barrel of my Norinco 701 (a Chinese copy of the Win pre 64 M70) bolt action rifle.
