Hi All, Acquired this rifle a few years ago sadly in quite poor condition and had a lot of surface rust due to damp storage conditions. In fact it took me about 20 hours to clean it off. Anyway to the piccies:- Now that is what it should, or would have looked like, this photo is of the re-recreation of them done in South Africa and was taken from their web site. The photos below are scans of 35mm prints and of the real one The bead has rusted off the thin blade of the foresight and needs a new one made. So far I have not been able to find any gunsmith will to take the job on. So it looks like I will hae to try it myself. You can see the blade here. It measures just 0.025" think. Of course it's a M93 Mauser complete with square bottomed bolt face and guide rail in the left wall of the action. Now part of me wishes to restore this fine old rifle. A careful polish then a re-blacking strip the old stock finish off and steam out the dents and apply a fresh hand rubbed oil finish, but then the other part realises that it's a rarity and should be preserved. |
