Looked at one the first year they come out while at SCI--agree with your analogy--they need work..BUT, in looking at most guns in that price range--most do as well..just read an article about some new Ruger carbine out..groups with factory ammo in that thing were shooting 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 inches --in todays world that is pathetic IMHO...I am willing to bet your 798 will do better thant that..

One thing I really didnt like was the factory open sights on the ones I looked at--I told the factory rep at the show that I figured they would last all of a half hour after leaving the truck to go hunting..

For the money spent, think you will be more than happy..let us know once you pull the trigger..
