Thanks Dons, We are getting together all the components to build a replica of a Mauser Type A in 9.3x62. Like Osa Johnson's rifle that Bob Faucett has and graciously posted pics of here. Lothar Walther has a barrel contour #5130 that is supposed to be an exact copy of a Mauser Type A in 404 Jeffery. They list a muzzle diameter of .625" on 26" long barrel. Contour #5130: Mauser Type E Sporter (for type A rifles) ØD1 = 0.625" ØD2 = 0.800" ØD3 = 0.865" ØD4 = 0.923" ØD5 = 1.200" L1 = 2.00" L2 = 2.79" L3 = 3.79" L4 = 6.49" L5 = 26" LW contour # 5130 I couldn't get the barrel drawing to past so here's the link: LW contour # 5130 I have been going back and forth a bit between a 10.75x68 built on a 1909 Argentine or a 404 Jeffery on a GMA Standard Magnum Single Square Bridge Action, to stay as close to true to the Mauser Type A. I guess the 404 Jeffery would be a 404 Eley according to the 1930 Mauser catalog reprint I have. So, I guess I need some help and guidance on the proper barrel contour for a Type A Mauser in 9.3x62 and 404 Jeffery. Any help would much appreciated! We want to build them as period correct as possible. Cheers, Allen PS, If I go with the 404 Jeffery on GMA action (the most likely option) it will have a flag safety, mil trigger and bolt handle like a Type A, not the GMA bolt handle. |
