Before firing this old beauty, be sure to have the bore diameter slugged and measured by a competent gunsmith. There is a very good chance that your rifle barrel has the early 8x57J bore diameter (0.318") rather than the later and more common 8x57S bore (0.323"). Firing S-bore projectiles through a J-bore barrel can lead to a potentially dangerous over-pressure situation. There is lots of information out there on this topic, so be sure to do your research first. Also, factory 8x57J ammunition and 0.318" jacketed bullets are still available, so there is no reason to "push it". Cheers! Peconga in Boise, Idaho USA |
