"A large number if Model 98 Mauser rifles on hand in Germany after World War I were converted into sporters and caliber 8.15X46R target rifles. The quality of these rifles ranged from fairly good to poor....Some imported into the United States were called Danzig rifles because they were made at Danzig Arsenal. Military markings were removed from many of these rifles which caused problems with identification." Ludwig Olsen "Mauser Bolt Rifles" p. 292 I have a similar rifle in 9X57 made in the Erfurt Arsenal. Unfortunately, when I obtained it the sporter stock had been replaced by a very poor quality military stock conversion. |
