I think the 61 cm is fine for the 8x68S

The new powders and bullets more than make up for the loss of about 4cm. The weight should be fine as well. I was shooting a Sauer 90 in that caliber and the recoal was no big deal - but I guess it is all what someone is comfortable with, I cant stand a 340 Weatherby for instance.
