Re: Pre-Threaded M98 Lothar Walther barrels.

Gentlemen,

thank you for the friendly words about german quality! (I´m Bavarian...)

I have three hunting rifles made by three different gunsmiths in Munich (cal. 7x57 / 8x64S / 9,3x57) and all three rifles shoot from "very good" to "outstanding"!
To my knowledge, all gunsmiths ordered and used pre-threaded barrels form LW.
I was on the range last Saturday and shot one group at 100m with the 8x64S in one ragged hole of an dia. of measured 16mm /ca. .6" (handload 200grs Accubond / powder R904 / case Sellier&Bellot).
That is outstanding for my shooting skill!

The 7x57 rifle´s precision was also very good with Nosler 140 and 150grs Ballistic Tip and the Sierra 160grs HPBT Gameking and varmint HP bullets. Precision declined between 3500 and 4000 rounds (in 6 years), now the rifle gets a new barrel, also from Walther.

The 9,3 shoots the lighter bullets (RWS 225grs Doppelkern, 232grs Norma PPC) and the 270grs Speer RN good (regularly under 25mm/4 shots), but the optic is max. 6power and I can not see a small target clear. My opinion: Rifle shoots beautiful but shooter skill is lacking...

I have not answered you question about thread fitting, but the results for shooting LW barrels are convincing.

I would recommend: Try it!

best regards & good shooting!
Rolf
