Whilst visitng friends in Zim I met a retired P/H with an early model 9.3x62, possibly 100 years old. It was a small ring mauser 98 with an original octagonal 29" barrel made by Krupp. The bore was pitted from corrosive primers but the owner assured me it still shot accurately. It originally had an aperture sight fitted to the cocking piece making a long sight radius. Stock was original though repaired. Engraving on the barrel indicated that it was made for an inhabitant of Cape Town. I was unable to take any pictures. Has anyone come across one of these before ? |
