Re: J.P. Sauer, What have I got?

Thanks for the replies, guys. From the look of the bolt handle it has been welded on. It has also been drilled and tapped. It is was all original I might have considered a full restoration, but I plan to hunt it. From the look of the rifle it has been carried alot more than it has been shot. The floor plate and bottom of the trigger guard are grey, and there is some bluing loss between the rear sight and receiver. I haven't shot it yet, its been 30 below around here since I got it. I like A10ACN's method of cleaning it up before deciding on the reblue job. If I like it after shooting I'm not worried about resale as I would keep it. I think for now I'll clean it up, strengthen the wood a bit with some crazy glue, and see how I shoot with it. The .318 bore is a pain and I haven't found anyone that sells that diameter bullet in Canada. I've got a swaging press on the way and I hope to find some light loads that are easy on both me and the wood. It is a cool gun though.
