I ran into an old Zimbabwe farmer years ago, he had 1 gun it was a beautiful Manlicher Rifle in a 30/06. Said he’d killed everything from duiker to elephant with it. Still had several boxes of Kynoch 220 grain solids.
I’ve used a 7x57 on a couple of Eland, it’s plenty of gun (I suspect a 30/06 would be even better)
