Re: A Two Barrel Take-down Rifle By Westley Richards.

My first safari my .30-06 did the lot from duiker to eland. Worked mostly fine when the bullets performed. Funny one idiot PH in the camp said a .30-06 was too light for eland. So Wayne my PH wanted to prove him wrong. And I did.

I did feel for a dedicated medium game trophy hunting rifle something slightly more powerful and flatter shooting might be good. So I later opted for a 8x68S. A .300 Magnum.is often the choice.

My second safari in South Africa and Zimbabwe was mainly for Cape buffalo was with a .375 H&H Magnum. But also Waterbuck, impala, zebra, bushbuck.

My third safari aiming at elephant my .450 NE DR was the main rifle. But i also took my 9.3x74R. I also borrowed Karl Stumpfe's M98 in 8x68S. Elephant, gemsbok, springbok, hartebeest, zebra and s numbervof warthog.

A problem with modern hunting travel is it can be impractical or two costly to take more than one rifle. Due to airlines luggage weight restrictions. So a compromise rifle might be needed. A switch barrel rifle might prove an even better compromise.
