I'm not sure to be allowed to criticize a gunmaker as prestigious as Purdey. This is a "Best Gun" as evidenced by the quality of execution, the choice of walnut, the detailed finish and of course the engraving. However, some points bother me. The action is obviously a top notch recent production system, certainly a Mayfair Engineering one, but I'm not at all a fan of the Recknagel ERA side swing mount on this type of high end rifle. It's a good industrial piece of mechanic, perfectly adapted to industrial rifles, but this Purdey deserved a better hand fitted scope mount. Then I would say that, to my taste, they left too much wood (!) and that the stock would have gained in elegance and ergonomics with a more open grip without Wundhammer swell, less straight comb, a shorter forend and indeed the front sling swivels band fitted on the barrel . Now all tastes are in nature and many will buy this rifle because the barrel is engraved with the Purdey name and address. DORLEAC www.dorleac-dorleac.com |
