Re: DORLEAC 9.3x64 Brenneke "Best Quality Plains Game Rifle"

A few words about this 9.3x64 Brenneke rifle.

First of all, it's amusing to know that the very first rifle I built in the early seventies was a 9.3x64 Mauser sporter.
Of course it wasn't a masterpiece and at that time, without Internet or digital pictures, I was sending bad photos to the late Lenard Brownell in Wyoming, one of the greatest "Classic" American master gunmaker of all time, who was invaluable in his support and uncompromising advices.
To meet the demand of our friendly -and above all very patient (!)- customer, we wanted to rediscover the style of "plains game" classic rifles made by the best craftsmen during the glorious period of the thirties.
The easiest way would have been to build the weapon as a safari rifle, replica of the marvelous traditional .375 Holland whereas I wanted to succeed the challenge of making an elegant handy rifle remaining solid and pleasant to shoot.
For a 9.3 Brenneke the best choice is a10.75x68 Original Mauser action.
We used such a superb commercial system produced in Oberndorf in the twenties, an action in close to absolute new state.
Evidently at first the action was fully blueprinted before we modified the bolt handle and assembled it on a match grade Lothar-Walther barrel blank. The 620mm (24.5") barrel was then profiled to our sporter style and meticulously chambered for the 9.3 Brenneke cartridge.
Then, in the white, the barreled action has successfully undergone the severely demanding test of the French proof house that applies, without the smallest concession, the requirements of CIP under ISO 9001 norm.
After that, everything else is just fun.
The stock has been cut from an old, well-seasoned and nicely figured French walnut blank and retains the usual style of our productions.
Our customer opted for a Zeiss Victory HT scope, certainly the best of this type of high-end optics and we fitted it on our special quick detachable claw mount.
The restrained engraving is from the talented hand of young Florent Viale and the whole has been carefully rust blued with some parts bone and charcoal color casehardened the traditional way.
Incidentally, this rifle print cloverleaf at 100 yards with hard-hitting RWS UNI Classic [TUG: Torpedo Universal Brenneke] 293 grains.
