On page 526, pic #805, of his "MauserArchive" book, Jon Speed shows a very similar rifle, # 24142 of 1908 in 9x57. It shows the same style and proportions of the stock, just like the 10.75x68 shown above, including the horn foreend tip. Though the barrel length of the "African model" or "model L = lang" (both designations were post-WW1 inventions btw!) is usually given as about 70cm = 28", "68cm" may also be original. F.i. it may be measured from the front of the receiver ring instead correctly from the breech face. |
