Specs on the rifle are; FN Mauser action 24" barrel in .300 H&H barrel is marked APEX 1957, serial number corresponds with the date. In many of these WBY Mausers I seen, owned, worked on, this is the first one with a "APEX". I have had a pile of them with "Timken", "Borg Warner" and not a few "P.O. Ackley" marked ones. Fairly plain, but sturdy european walnut stock with appropriate white diamond in pistol grip. Has gotten a clean up, touched up the crown, bedded and the ancient Bushnell scope has been replace with a Nilon Monarch 6x for now. I will be on the hunt for that just right classic scope for it. I have traded for some Winchester ammo, new brass and RCBS dies. It shoots well with a 180gr Nosler. In the trade I recieved some 165gr nosler BTs loaded with S361 that I may try as well. Not much load work for now as it is more than accurate enough and hunting season is just weeks away. Winter my call for a trip to the "spa" for freshening as well as addressing the "rough" chamber. Appears to be pitted ever so slightly, just ahead of the belt, causing a bit of a hitch during extraction. |
