eagle27 Donīt know the sources of your opinion. First you should know that the Type A rifles were not sold exclusively , but mainly to the British market. You will find many Type A rifles (typical features :express sights, sling eyes and stock with horntipped forends) showing the magazine box with the lever on the floorplate. Very early ones (before WWI) even had the military type floorplate I have two in the same configuration as shown here. One in Caliber 8x60 and another one in 9x57 . Both produced in the 30 years. BTW both reimported from the UK ! The 6,5 x 58 Portuguese was adopted in 1904 by the military as their standard round. And yes they had african colonies and so there was a market to sell them rifles the Brits considered useful. |
