The action is detailed like a G33/40 so the wood line has to drop down on the left side. The bevel like an ejection port was at the request of the client. That little piece of wood in front of the bolt stop survived through the stocking process. Pretty easy to break off when the metal work isn't in the stock. When the rifle is assembled it is fairly well protected. Most custom Mausers with the thumb slot have this same little fin of wood and they seem to stay put.
